AMARILLO FOUNDATION REPAIR EXPERTS
Published: Aug 10, 2026
You've noticed a stair-step crack in the brick, a door that won't latch, or a floor that's developed a slope. Somewhere between "probably nothing" and "call someone today," every Amarillo homeowner hits the same question: do you pay a structural engineer for an independent assessment, or call a foundation repair company for a free inspection? The right answer depends on your situation. Sometimes the smart move is both, in a specific order.
A structural engineer is a licensed professional who diagnoses. They evaluate load-bearing walls, beams, slabs, and framing, identify the root cause of movement, and produce a written, certified report with repair recommendations. They don't sell repairs — which is exactly why their opinion carries weight with insurers, lenders, and buyers.
A foundation repair company fixes. They install piers, level slabs, and stabilize structures. Most (including us) offer free inspections and written estimates, with the understanding that they'd like to earn the job.
In Texas, a structural engineer's foundation evaluation with a written report typically runs $400 to $1,000, with more complex cases reaching $1,500. In the Panhandle you'll usually land in the middle of that range. A foundation repair company's inspection, by contrast, is typically free. The trade-off is that it comes from someone who benefits if you buy repairs.
Pay for the independent assessment when the stakes or the uncertainty are high:
For most situations: start with a free inspection from a reputable local repair company. If the findings are minor and the price is modest, you may be done. If the recommended repair is extensive, the cause is murky, or a sale or insurance claim is in play, invest in an independent engineer's report before committing. No honest repair company objects to that. We'd rather bid against an engineer's spec than argue with a competitor's guesswork.
Amarillo Foundation Repair Experts offers free, no-pressure foundation inspections across Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. We'll show you what we see, put it in writing, and tell you plainly if an engineer's opinion is worth the money in your case.
